Netball & Tennis Court Refurbishment

Leighton Middle School - Bedfordshire

Following a site survey and submission of a design proposal, Fieldform were appointed by Leighton Middle School to refurbish two netball and tennis courts. Due to Covid-19 restrictions the project had to be completed within a strict four week window starting at the end of July to avoid interaction with pupils.

Leighton Middle School is based in the centre of Leighton Buzzard and occupies buildings which formerly housed The Cedars School. Following re-organisation of Schools by Bedfordshire County Council in 1974, Leighton Middle School was established. The School is also famous for being the childhood home of Mary Norton who wrote the world famous ‘The Borrowers’ books.

The School offers pupils a wide range of opportunities including specialist facilities for Art, Design Technology, Science and Music. Leighton Middle School has extensive playing fields, a separate gymnasium, two netball and tennis courts, and a floodlit multi-sports facility that are utilised throughout the year to provide pupils with a comprehensive programme of sports.

Once a temporary haulage route was established using heavy-duty trackway the existing macadam surface was broken out to expose an aggregate sub base. To create a significantly improved playing surface that meets SAPCA and Sport England standards the sub base was topped up, trimmed and re-levelled using specialist, laser guided machinery.

Upon completion of the re-grading works a new, twin layer of macadam was installed by our highly skilled site team using laser guided equipment. Upon completion of the surfacing works both courts were line marked to provide a surface suitable for both netball and tennis.

Following independent testing the refurbished tennis and netball courts were handed over at the end of August ready for the new School term and are now in daily use by over 500 pupils.
