Long Jump Facility – Design and Construction

Following other successful installations in the local area, Fieldform were appointed by Balksbury Junior School in Andover to design and construct a long jump facility suitable for children aged 7 – 11 years of age, track and field athletics is a huge passion of Company Director, James Coney so this was a project we were very keen to work on.

To create a facility capable of providing a high quality experience for every pupil we proposed the following design features:

• 25 long x 1.2m wide run up to provide a competition level experience
• Synthetic run up, allowing the facility to be used in all weathers
• Wooden jump board to practice take off mechanics
• 7m long x 3m pit providing the opportunity for teachers to have multiple jumpers working at the same time where necessary
• Rubber topped kerbs in the landing area creating a safe jumping environment
• PVC pit cover ensuring the landing area is kept clean of animal debris and falling leaves

To allow the facility to be used for the Summer Term, we worked closely with the School to carry out the construction works in term time. The finished facility has blended in perfectly with the surrounding sports field and is now a very valued addition to the School campus.
