Fire Tested Rooftop MUGA

Maximising Space Through Innovation

As part of a multi million pound mixed-use development,  Fieldform were appointed by Downing Construction to design and install an innovative multi-use sports facility on a rooftop overlooking the river Thames. Due to the nature of the works and current building regulations, Fieldform were tasked with developing a rooftop sports system that met the requirements of external fire exposure to roofs, BS 476-3:2004 and CEN/TS1187:2012 – Test 4, including EN 13501-5 T4 classification. After months of research and lab testing we were delighted to create a Broof (t4) compliant system that has been approved by a UKAS accredited laboratory.

Following the successful lab testing construction works were carried out by our in-house installation team in the summer of 2021. Due to the challenging nature of working on a rooftop in a city centre location effective project management was vital, key tasks included booking crane days, creating a tight schedule of works, liaising with other contractors to secure sole use of the rooftop at key stages, working in partnership with various suppliers to secure timeslots for deliveries and working nights.

Despite working in a busy construction site alongside multiple trades the project was delivered on time and within budget. The facility is now in use by residents offering a flexible surface for outdoor exercise and strength and conditioning activities.

Due to Fieldform's professionalism and commitment from design through to completion this challenging project was delivered within the strict timescales set to the agreed budget. Throughout the project both Richard and James were an ever present on site and were always on hand to solve any issues.
